Hi James.

I noticed that you are using OJB and Struts. I'm currently trying to
install OJB in order to get the JavaEdge application working from
Professional Struts Applications book by Wrox - the newest book on the
block...

I went to http://db.apache.org/ojb/quickstart.html but have not been
successful with step 4 on a WinXP system ... "To check if OJB runs
properly out of the box execute bin\build junit under Win32 and
bin/build.sh junit under Unix/Linux. ". Any suggestions? Was the
installation easy for you?

I get the following error message:

 >"C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\bin\java" -classpath
"..\target\classes;..\target\classestest;C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\lib\tools.jar;"
-Dant.home=lib org.apache.tools.ant.Main junit -buildfile build.xml
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/apache/tools/ant/Main

Re: OJB + Struts = Example

Posted by jdeveloper <jd...@cox.net>.
Well, from my previous message, I realized I did not totally follow
directions. For step 4,
I had to go to the root directory of OJB and type "bin\build junit". It
did not like me executing "build junit" inside the bin directory.

However, I still get a BUILD FAILED message at the end stating...

prepare:

BUILD FAILED
file:C:/OJB9.8/jakarta-ojb-0.9.8/build.xml:99:
C:\OJB9.8\jakarta-ojb-0.9.8\src\java not found.

Might you have any hints of what needs to be set for the build to work?

Thanks,
Brenda

Re: OJB + Struts = Example

Posted by James Mitchell <jm...@apache.org>.
Ok, just got off the phone with Chuck. He said he doesn't mind, so here is
the version that I have:

  http://sourceforge.net/projects/struts/

Note - This is a simple webapp and not all the features have been
implemented. I will continue to improve the codebase over the next few
months, but this is a "use at your own risk" sample application.

To deploy "as is", you will need to configure your database connection
(repository.xml) and create a database (or change the config) called 'ojb'
with a user 'ojb' and password 'ojb'. Next execute the sql.sql against the
new database to create the necessary data and internal tables (OJB).

Use you best judgment to deploy on your container. I can help if using
Tomcat, Resin, or JBoss/Tomcat. Personally, I use JBoss/Tomcat so the
unzipped/exploded war should deploy if you extract it to
server/default/deploy.

Have fun!!!

Have fun!!!
