   I recall discussing this to death, and coming to the conclusion that handling element targets *and* path names would introduce ambiguity which we'd all rather avoid.
   
   Let's consider this to be well enough handled as @cs-shadow's patch had already introduced better error reporting which should help the user out of confusing scenarios like this anyway.
