Adding the ASM 6.0 dependency fixed the issue for me. This is a common problem, based on the number of upvotes of this StackOverflow answer:

maven-compiler-plugin has been in version 3.7.0 for a while now -- is there any chance a 3.7.1 could be pushed out that just bumps the ASM dependency version to 6.0?
