Apache Parquet for .NET

Hi everyone,

I’m currently leading a project of parquet implementation for Microsoft .NET, it’s compatible with both classic .NET and .NET Standard and getting a lot of use in small and big companies, some of them are known worldwide. At the moment it works on all flavours of Windows, Linux, and was briefly tested on iOS and Android.

I was wondering if you are interested in us joining Apache community, we would appreciate Apache support and get more people involved in this. Parquet seems to be quite in demand in .NET ecosystem.

The project address is https://github.com/elastacloud/parquet-dotnet

Can’t wait for your thoughts on this.

Best,
Ivan Gavryliuk

Hello all,

I would like to bump this thread again. It would be nice to have the .NET implementation as part of the official Apache project. From the Apache project perspective I would volunteer to help to integrate the project into the infrastructure, sadly I have also no experience with the IP process and would therefore need a helping hand.

Ivan, are then any outstanding issues on your side that need to be resolved or is the IP clearance inside the Apache Software Foundation currently the only thing that needs to be solved?
We will probably have Google Hangout for the Parquet project at 18:00 GMT next Wednesday or Tuesday (discussion for the weekday is ongoing on the mailing list currently), will you be able to join or is that time too inconvenient for you?

Feel free to ask your questions on this list and we'll help you find
answers.

Coming to the google hangout is a good way to get started in the community.
Most of the active contributors come, so you'd be able to meet everyone.
I'd also like to hear more about the current community, meet some of you,
and get an idea of how you all think working on this under Apache will go.
Have any of you guys worked in the Apache communities before?

Hi Ryan,

I’d really appreciate that. Sorry for the slow response, I was trying to get full approval from Elastacloud where library originated from to move this to Apache community, it’s all good now 😊 I’m sort of struggling a bit filling up IP clearance form, is Google Hangouts a good place to raise questions about it?

hi Ivan,

I would be excited to have you join the Parquet community. With more
Parquet implementations being built in the last years, we could also
collaborate on more comprehensive compatibility / integration testing.

As a formality, to bring your codebase into the Apache Parquet project
will require completing an IP clearance process with the ASF, since
the software was developed outside the community:
http://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/. This is relatively painless
and mostly about verifying IP lineage, distribution rights, and
licensing. A number of us should be able to assist you with this.

best,
Wes
