Thanks for the patch. Committed to trunk. Could you patch for 0.8 too? One thing that we need to be careful of is that special characters in groupid could fail the mbean registration. We could do the same thing as in  kafka-495 to restrict groupid to contain only ASCII alphanumeric chars, underscore and dash.
