Editor poll

We support way too many editors, making it difficult for a new person to
get up and running quickly. I think we need to support one or two
editors really well. We can certainly support more.

What editor do you use? What editor do you think needs better support?

Richard

Or just suggest the tinyMCE people to fix it themselves ;-)

Just leaving for home. Good night :-)

Florent is hosting an SVN for Lenya modules - we should create a module
and place it there until such time as the licensing issues can be
overcome somehow.

Incidentally - as anyone ever contacted the TinyMCE people and asked
them if they would consider a dual licence? Maybe worth a shot...

Hi Vik

I have removed the options from tinyMCE though. My tinyMCE only shows
those options which are usable. But the problem is we can not export
tinyMCE with lenya as there is licencing problem. So if I have to update
tinyMCE in future I have to apply the changes again.

I think we should work on this during the Lenya meeting and remove those
options.

Otherwise you're right, it's very confusing.

Hi

I am using TinyMCE editor. Just integrated version 3.0 in my Lenya 2.0.3.

All is working fine except couple of problems on which I am working
right now. But even the latest version of tinyMCE has all the deprecated
tags(though it cleans up when we save the page). But this can create lot
of confusion in user's mind as the options are still there.

Otherwise for a user TinyMCE is good one.

Firedocs, especially re. documentation and examples.

But I agree that we should ship an editor that is (kind-of) platform
independent and doesn't require installing a plug-in. Alas, this seems
only possible for (X)HTML documents.

I agree. I use TinyMCE and the source editor, because I got them to
work reasonably well -- not perfectly though.

Personally, I don't really care which editor is used, as long as it
works well. The big challenge IMO is to stay reasonably up-to-date
with it; browser updates tend to break dynamic user interfaces, which
means that a few-years-old editor will very likely have a number of
blocker-level issues when used with current-generation browsers.
TinyMCE as it is is just barely good enough; UI- and feature-wise it's
fine, it just has occasional hiccups, and I've had to disable some
features to stop users from mangling the pages. But if there's a
better alternative out there, I would have no objections to switching.

I would much prefer a simple editor with stripped-down functionality
that's solid as a rock to one that's more feature-rich but a little
bit flaky.

I know this isn't easy; even Google has trouble getting the Blogger
editor to work decently even on their own browser, and they certainly
don't want for resources.

Here is the Demo of two editors

Below is the link for latest TinyMCE Editor:

http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/examples/full.php

Below is the link for upgraded version of FCK Editor which is now CK Editor:

http://ckeditor.com/demo

We can choose from these and if somebody else has a better option,
please share.

Thanks

That would be great!

I tried that once but had problems to get it working.

At my site (www.dante.de) we recommend TinyMCE. Users report problems with kupu
(though I haven't been able to reproduce them). BXE is nice in principle, but
nearly all users don't understand how to use it.

I'd like to try and make TinyMCE 3.x work with lenya.
