We can eliminate some complexity in the build if we use available maven plugins to automate more tasks.

A PDF can be generated from LaTeX source with the org.codehaus.mojo:latex-maven-plugin:1.1 (or latest version) more simply than our current build.sh script that gets executed manually.

Some investigation may be needed to determine the system requirements to execute that plugin, and bind the artifacts to the build or include in the dist tarball.
