Folks,
We cannot go indefinitely closing and re-opening this bug. It's a can of
worms, we've got to keep it closed.
There were numerous requests to add this feature. The requests were based on a
NEED to have it. That's why it was added. We realize that it gives the user
an option of mildly disobeying the XPath 1.0 standard. We know that, and we
have agreed to accept that. I don't like the idea of "improving" a standard
any more than the next guy, but sometimes you gotta do what you need to do, not
what you'd rather do. This feature is a reasonable compromise between purity
and necessity.
I hope we can return the bug into the "Resolved" status.
