RE: problems upgrading from 1.3.19 to 1.3.26

I have installed apache 1.3.26 instead of 1.3.22 and everything seemed
to work I got though the ./apachectl start and all was good it said it
started but then I ran httpd -v and it shows 1.3.19 so I stopped 1.3.19
rebooted the server and checked the httpd -v it said 1.3.19 so I stopped
the httpd from /et/rc.d/init.d and tried to run ./apachectl start it
says it starts but then I run ./apachectl stop and it says no pid httpd
not running
Any ideas would be more than welcome.

Ouch! ...okay, I use CVSup on a regular basis. You can check out this
URL
for info on that if you don't have cvsup set up yet:
http://www.polstra.com/projects/freeware/CVSup/faq.html

...or the FBSD handbook:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/cvsup.html

...or you might want to get the ports from /stand/sysinstall. I don't
use
that method, but you should be able to get the port you want from it
under
"www".

Did you stop apache before installing the new version? If not, kill all
of the httpd processes

$ killall httpd

should do it. (man 1 killall)

Then start apache again.

RE: problems upgrading from 1.3.19 to 1.3.26

Posted by "Jack L. Stone" <ja...@sage-one.net>.
I run FBSD and not familiar with the commands on Linux, but upon installing
a new program, you need to tell your shell that it is there and the path
for the program. In FBSD, root shell, this is done with a command "rehash".
This saves the need to reboot to update. I assume Linux has a similar
command. This sounds like the problem you are having and a "rehash" type
command would update your system for the new install of Apache and show the
new httpd...

On FBSD, to see if the system is updated and what httpd it is looking at, I
can run the "which" command and it tells me if it exists and where the path
is, for instance:
#root@sage-one>> which httpd
...gives this answer: "/usr/local/sbin/httpd"

Hope that is of help....

RE: problems upgrading from 1.3.19 to 1.3.26

Posted by Michael J Humphries <ad...@alphacomm.net>.
It thinks that the httpd daemon is in the /usr/sbin/ dir is it getting
that from the httpd file in /etc/rc.d/init.d/ if not then where?
I renamed the /usr/sbin/httpd daemon to httpd.old and ran httpd -v and
now I get this
[root@saturn /usr]# httpd -v
bash: /usr/sbin/httpd: No such file or directory

This may or may not be accurate. Do

ps -ef | grep httpd

to see if there any apache processes still going.

also, do

which httpd

to see if the httpd you are querying with httpd -v is the same one you
think it is.
