[RELEASE]: Where we are with the redirects to the new extension/template repos

Hi,

can anybody tell me where we are with the Url redirects to the new
extensions repository.

We have for example https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118976
as show stopper issue

Do we have specific problems with the redirects?

And can we use short Urls for

extensions.services.openoffice.org -> extensions.openoffice.org
we can drop the former extension.openoffice.org web page, it guides the
user mainly to the wiki

templates.services.openoffice.org = templates.openoffice.org
user.services.openoffice.org = user.openoffice.org

ah latency I suppose - the URLs go where expected this morning.

I'll keep you posted. Still haven't investigated Juergen's "users" request
yet.

The zone file still has this:
updateext CNAME ftp.osuosl.org <ftp://ftp.osuosl.org>

what is updateext and should it be pointed at aoo-extensions.sf.net also?

We need also this one to manage extensions updates requests.

updateexte.services.openoffice.org CNAME aoo-extensions.sf.net.

The DNS records ASF advertises are:

extensions     CNAME     aoo-extensions.sf.net.
templates      CNAME     aoo-templates.sf.net.

Howdy,

Well, not just now they didn't.

extensions.openoffice.org to me to http://www.openoffice.org/extensions/
(on the new server)
and
templates.openoffice.org takes me to
http://openoffice.org/projects/templates/
(on the old kenai server)

am I missing something or maybe I misunderstood.

OK, extensions.openoffice.org AND templates.openoffice.org are now
functioning -- i.e. redirecting to sourceforge.net.

On the one mentioned just above here....OK, I will put in this request.
Will it have a "name" as well and what is it? I hadn't been kpeeing up with
a lot of the moves to SourceForge, so if some list was previously sent, I
didn't see it.

Also, before redirecting entries, we need to review the redirects list at:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/DNS%2C+Virtual+Hosts+and+Redirects

to make sure we're not overrding a previously established redirect with one
of these "short hand" entries.

I will request this additional item, and review Juergen's users.services.
openoffice.org
if I gto time today -- or for sure tomorrow.

These hosts are now accepted by our project web, it should work just fine.

We are already set for that, feel free to point to it at any time.

As I understood from Juergen we can get rid of that page, but the link
to the wiki that we just added to the page.
Hope this works for you.

Apache INFRA DID put redirects in for

extensions.openoffice.org -> aoo-extensions.sf.net (same as
extensions.service.openoffice.org)

--and--

templates.openoffice.org -> aoo-templates.openoffice.org (same as
templates.services.openoffice.org)

but these 2 new URLS produce the following --

"This space is managed by SourceForge.net. You have attempted to access a
URL that either never existed or is no longer active. Please check the
source of your link and/or contact the maintainer of the link to have them
update their records. "

So, not sure what else needs to be done, or if this will go away with a
total DNS sync/restart by SourceForge or ????

I missed Juergen's request for users.services.openoffice.org. I will look
into that later today once we get this other issue resolved. And,look into
updateexte.services.openoffice.org as well. HTH ....

...also I did realize/notice by doing this that our existing
extensions.openoffice.org (actually www.openoffice.org/extensions)
basically got overwritten, but this is not a big deal, but caution is the
operative word here in the future!. I can track down links like this and
fix them.

I'll be back in touch later today...

OK, nslookup is now resolving this correctly.

And it looks like both updateexte.openoffice.org and
updateexte.services.openoffice.org are going to the new extensions site at
SourceForge as well.

OK...actually I notice *now* that extensions.openffice.org has a link to
the wiki...but no intro

yes, will do.

Oh, there's LOTS of cleanup in this regard...LOTS. Perhaps over the next
month or so, we need to make an effort on this.

OK. I should revert the topnav change. I think these two links should be equivalent.

The extensions page should have all the relevant links along with a description of the SourceForge relationship.

There should be direct links to -

- The extensions site.
- The templates site.
- The extensions wiki.

Any other suggestions?

The mailing lists need to be removed. There should be a major scan of ooo-site for other MLs to remove.... another issue.

Dave

ok, the topnav...that's fine. I changed the "button" link back to
www.openoffice.org/extensions instead of this because it gave a link to the
wiki and maybe some other info that might be useful.

Re: [RELEASE]: Where we are with the redirects to the new extension/template repos

Posted by Dave Fisher <da...@comcast.net>.
Yesterday I reset the topnav 'extend' button to point to extensions.openoffice.org instead if / extensions/

It took awhile to come through but worked this morning.

Hi--

There seems to be a problem with this one
updateexte.services.openoffice.org -- it's not resolving correctly. I have
re-opened my ticket from yesterday. Once this one is fixed, I'll deal with
users....

later...

Please let us know when it's done, and I'd kindly ask you also to add
the following:

216.34.181.96 updateexte.services.openoffice.org

So that we can manage properly extensions updates.

Thanks,

Roberto

Juergen--

Both of these seem to be redirecting correctly, near as I can tell.

+++++++++++++++
 nslookup extensions.services.openoffice.org

Non-authoritative answer:
extensions.services.openoffice.org      canonical name =
aoo-extensions.sf.net.
Name:   aoo-extensions.sf.net
Address: 216.34.181.96

 nslookup templates.services.openoffice.org

Non-authoritative answer:
templates.services.openoffice.org       canonical name =
aoo-templates.sf.net.
Name:   aoo-templates.sf.net
Address: 216.34.181.96
++++++++++++++++

The short URLs are not "correct" at this time -- directing instead to the
web server address. We will need to contact INFRA on this. I can do this if
you like.
