problem with IexternalPage and PageRenderListener

we are implementing a progressbar page that will be dynamically updated using the shell component.
we are implementing IExternalPage and PageRenderListener.
while the page works properly in other browsers there is a problem in Internet Explorer: A few seconds after loading the page gets redirected to the Home Page of the application.If the page is manually refreshed,it no longer goes back to homepage.
it does not refresh itself automatically either; as agaisnt in other browsers where the page is automatically refreshed.
If anybody else has encountered this problem or has a solution please suggest
