See ACCUMULO-1905 for the technical explanation. Increasing the default to what 1.6.0 runs (256KB->1MB) with drastically increases ingest performance (~3x) for a relatively minor increase in heap usage.

In 1.5.0 and 1.5.1, users can alter this parameters themselves, but they have to know about it. This will provide a better default that provides much improved ingest throughput.
