DO NOT REPLY [Bug 44642] New: how to use
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=44642
Summary: how to use <reference>
Product: Ant
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: Documentation
AssignedTo: notifications@ant.apache.org
ReportedBy: pshannon@ediwatch.com
I'm sorry, this is not really a bug, it is a request for better info in the Ant
on-line manual, and I couldn't find out where to send it.
I can't see from the on-line Ant manual how to use
<reference>
I have spent a lot of time looking, including indexes of books such as "Ant:
The Definitive Guide, 2nd edition", and could not find info. If I had found it
listed in the index of one of these books, I would have ordered the book.
Thank you for all you time and help.

First, I'm not impressed by Ant the Definitive guide Either. I am a fan of Ant
in Action, but then I'm biased.
Second, what do you mean by <reference>? There is a bit on Ant datatypes and
references to them in the manu
http://ant.apache.org/manual/using.html#references
In Ant in Action this is indexed under 'datatypes:references' and 'references',
both of which point to concepts on page 73.
The other possibility is that <reference> is an element under some other task,
in which case we'd need to know which task you are talking about before we can
give a sensible answer.
Incidentally, as an open source project, we celebrate contributions of
documentation.
