[jira] [Commented] (TIKA-86) Support magic(5) files

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TIKA-86?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13186898#comment-13186898 ]

Nick Burch commented on TIKA-86:
--------------------------------

I'm not sure if we still need this, as the Tika mimetypes file is now much more comprehensive than the common magic(5) mimetype files (such as in HTTPD)

If anything, we should be looking at providing a way for httpd to use our mimetype logic :)

> Tika should have a parser for the magic(5) file format used by the file(1) command. Then we could use existing magic rules from places like http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/httpd/trunk/docs/conf/magic.
