Dependencies: build time vs. runtime
So far as I can tell there is no differentiation in project.xml about
which dependencies are required for built time and which are required
for runtime.
Is this a feature that is planned for the future?
Is this a deliberate decision?
Are the deps in project.xml intended as runtime dependencies only and
that build deps should be restricted to plugins?
Thanks,

Maven (and/or its plugins) has to know about runtime because:
1) It runs tests which are inside one "runtime". And actually, that's
yet another differentiation on dependencies--there may be deps for
running the tests.
2) It does the packaging and that means it needs to know what to package
up (for runtime).

Should maven know about runtime?
I had the same 'problem' when started using maven, I come to the
conclusion that maven should not handle this difference, since it does
not even run my app, on the other side, it is certainly mavens domain
the packaing issue, some plugins like war let you make a difference in
dependencies to tell which are packed in your application and which
are not.
