Rev #56530 proposed as Alpha release candidate

Let's bang on Rev #56530 as our alpha release candidate.

* Known Alpha bugs from last night to arrive at a Beehive alpha
distribution have been fixed or punted.

* Open documentation issues will be fixed on the project site for the
alpha milestone.  The user guide/docs will not be part of the
distribution for this release.

* Michael Merz, can you investigate
