Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: XERCERJ-204
    Summary: Parsed DOM contains garbage in CDATA values
       Type: Bug

     Status: Resolved
 Resolution: FIXED

    Project: Xerces2-J

   Assignee: Xerces-J Developers Mailing List
   Reporter: Benjamin Geer

    Created: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 3:51 PM
    Updated: Mon, 12 Apr 2004 2:18 PM
Environment: Operating System: Other
Platform: PC

Description:
I'm about to attach an example of this, which you can reproduce using the
dom.Writer sample program included with Xerces 2.

The file input.xml contains our original XML data. The file output.xml
contains the result of doing the following:

java dom.Writer input.xml > output.xml

In input.xml, you'll find an element that begins as follows:

<MessageRouting>
<![CDATA[package test.routings.Error;

The corresponding element value in output.xml begins as follows:

<MessageRouting>
<![CDATA[MERIDIAN.ALERT.QXML(None)Nopackage test.routings.Error;

As you can see, Xerces has inserted some garbage into the element value.

There are several other cases of this in output.xml.
