[users@httpd] Help from a Beginner
Hi all,
I am a beginner of using Apache HTTP server 2.0.55, which is running in XP.
I would like to ask how can I configure HTTPS and SSL on this server by
using a self-signed certificate?
Thx a lot

pick up any apache +ssl precompiled binary. i prefer this one
http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/perl/win32-bin/ but for some reason its
been moved to the archives at http://archive.apache.org/dist/perl/win32-bin/
it contains apache 2.0.54 + mod perl + ssl. the other binary is at
http://hunter.campbus.com/
after that pull down the openssl binary from
http://www.slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html - u will need this to
easily create certificates.
then check out the faq at
http://www.akadia.com/services/ssh_test_certificate.html and at
http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_faq.html#ToC29

First,
You have to make sure you have a copy of apache that is compiled for ssl. normal dist is not. if you do, go to openssl.org and download their utility. in their FAQ section, they tell you how to generate a key and cert for yourself. you can follow the example conf file for ssl on how to config it.
hope that helps
