Body:
Having just read just about all of the documentation for Maven, I agree with this suggestion. There were several times that I had to stop for a minute and think: What kind of "repository" are we talking about here?

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: MAVEN-1109
Summary: Change <repository/> element to <scm/> element to reflect what it actually is.
Type: Improvement
Status: Unassigned
Priority: Major
Original Estimate: Unknown
Time Spent: Unknown
Remaining: Unknown
Project: maven
Versions:
1.0-rc1
Assignee:
Reporter: Jason van Zyl
Created: Tue, 6 Jan 2004 5:59 PM
Updated: Thu, 22 Jul 2004 7:40 AM
Description:
Deprecate the use the <repository/> element as we have a fundamental conflict in nomenclature which is the local/remote repository and the source repository. It would be more clear to have an <scm/> element and avoid the use of repository unless we are talking about artifact repositories.
