I've opened draft PR [apache/solr#1488|https://github.com/apache/solr/pull/1488] to allow explicit configuration of uninversion behavior/defaults at the node level, via solr.xml.
This could be its own issue I suppose, but I thought it was close enough to the spirit of this issue that I'd initially open it here.
It's a draft PR for now, since I wanted to solicit feedback on the general approach before digging too deep.
