Hi Justin and Brennan,

I also can help to import the NuttX Wiki pages.

How to proceed? Gavin just said he need someone from the project to
give it a try.

But how we can follow him and help in this process?

Justin,
Username is btashton

Greg could you send me a zip with the raw wiki folder? That would simplify
things for me.

The Wiki has been around for a long time, I am sure it has collected its

Most of the documentation is just a copy of the nuttx/Documentation
directory (but not all).  I have normally only updated that on releases
so that the online documentation reflects the last release.

Again, that is the HTML in nuttx/Documentation.  It can be fixed with a
simple patch.

Hi,

One possible solution is to use the ASF URL shortening service [1] e.g https://s.apache.org/nuttxwiki <https://s.apache.org/nuttxwiki>

One rather unfriendly thing I see is the naming used in the Wiki
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NUTTXTEST/Wiki (vs
http://www.nuttx.org/doku.php?id=wiki)

The clean English titles got changed into cryptic, less than
intelligible strings that look like they derive from a path.

The old Wiki page names came from the "===== Title =====" at the
beginning of the Wiki .txt file.  Those held the correct titles and were
automatically used in the Wiki page list by DocuWiki. Will these need to
be manually restored to English?

I imagine that the same issue applies to other automatically generated
Wiki page lists.

I tried but it failed, I guess because it already existed. I’ve asked Infra to look into this.

Justin,
Can you create a confluence space with the NUTTX spacekey, so I can try to
migrate the content. Looks like I do not have permission to do that with
selfserv.

Xiang,
Unfortunately it's currently stalled waiting for Apache INFRA. Confluence
has made this a complicated task likely requiring export and import or
something similarly invasive. Wish I had known that beforehand, we could
have just used NUTTX and deleted it until we got it right...

https://issues.apache.org/jira/plugins/servlet/mobile#issue/INFRA-19570

Probably can poke them in the new year if it has not been addressed by then.

You can put in in a special named branch of the main repo. Some projects use jenkins to build the site when content is changed. Infra enhanced this feature recently so it controlled by a file, I’ll see if I can look up the details. There are some requirements for an Apache project web site. [1]

In the past nuttx.org was just the wiki, but I see that there is a standard
template that we are recommended to start
from. I have used Jekyll in the past, so happy to get something for
comment. I am not a commiter or sure what our
git repo is for the website (seemed like it could be git or svn), but I
forked the template in github and am starting with that.

If anyone else is doing this reach out, wikis and websites are not my
favorite, but I want to get this stuff behind us so we
can get back to coding on the project :p

As long as it says "waiting for user” Infra will not look at it. I've changed to be “waiting for infra”.

nuttx.org should probably redirect to nuttx.apache.org not the wiki site?

Re: [nuttx] Wiki Backup

Posted by Brennan Ashton <ba...@brennanashton.com>.
There is no longer any links to nuttx.org on the wiki, all of the content
in now attached to the space.

A few points:
0) A couple people have been helping clean some formatting and import
errors. Thank you!

1 ) All of the documentation files are now attached to the documentation
page, even if they are used/rendered elsewhere. This makes it easier to
update them.
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NUTTXTEST/Documentation
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpageattachments.action?pageId=139629402

2) The HTML files that were part of /Documentation and a snapshot at
release time of the docs have been run through a tool called inliner
https://github.com/remy/inliner
This makes sure all of the images, css, and js are inlined with the file
instead of linked. This works around a confluence issue where it cannot
render HTML with relative links. I have made note of the on the
Documentation page.

3) The SPACEKEY is still NUTTXTEST I would like to get that moved to
NUTTX, but the ticket does not seem to be moving. Since the ticket was
about importing the wiki should I open a new once specifically for the
SPACEKEY change?
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-19570

4) When can we point nuttx.org at this for the wiki?

Did another major round of updates. I removed a few pages that just linked
to documentation pages that are already linked in the documentation
section. We need to figure out what to do with what is in the
documentation section.
For PDFs and the like we can just attach them to the Documentation page and
then link them in the individual pages, but for the HTML if is a pain to
render the images as well. I did a hack on the graphics one to replace the
image url, but it is not ideal.

There are also places like this where there is a link to download, and that
should be replaced with an attachment.
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=139629542

You can also use click Page Info to view all the external links for a
page. For example there is a nuttx.org and three youtube links here
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewinfo.action?pageId=139629542

Also about the long URLs Confluence also will generate the short link:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/5pNSC

There are some pages where the import did some goofy things like putting
each line of a code block it its own block, but it is very rare and still
readable.

If others want to help review and fix formatting please do.

Justin, I'll ask INFRA if they can fix the space name.

Brennan,

Thank you for your efforts!

Justin: Is there an issue with adding all the PPMC to have the ability to
edit the content?

I see some naming that looks like url id became the Page Title:

For example: NuttX Initialization Sequence is listed under Initsequence

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NUTTXTEST/Initsequence

Also is there a way to maintain the original authors?

First stab at the import went surprisingly well. All but a few pages
converted, unfortunately the hierarchy did not convert correctly so I will
have to mess with it more (these tools are mostly abandoned for 8+ years so
at least they run).

Greg I dont think I will need the other non wiki files since they were not
wiki attachments they are just external links, we will just have to
manually re-import them which should be easy enough.

True! And in fact the browser nowadays supports to translate from
English to user end language.

So, I don't think it will be a huge issue if we dump it.

+1 to dump the translated Wiki.

They have been untouched for what a couple of years now (probably not
that long).  They have NEVER been touched since the initial flurry.  It
is unrealistic at this point to believe someone is going to finish
them.  Possible by unlikely to the extreme.

It is just crap that is carried around and makes the Wiki look
unprofessional.  I would vote to dump or archive them.

Good question, I don't know if it makes sense to keep the initial i18n
wiki work. Well, maybe you can keep it and other people will try to
contribute translating more pages.

A little off topic:  What are going to do with all of those fragmentary,
unsupported versions of the Wiki in other languages. People got enthused
to have a copy of the Wiki in there own language, converted a couple of
pages, then wandered off to do some other good deed.

I don't think they have value as they are.

Hi Brennan,

Did you get access? When I try to login, it tell me I don't have permission.

So, let see if you get the UWC working converting DocuWiki to Confluence.

I can help organizing the content to create better categories to let
users find it easily.

I can tar up the data directories, put them in a google drive, and share
it with you.

Let me look into create an FTP account for you. I am not sure that is
possible.  I could possible loan you my password, but that is probably
not such a good practice.

... no can do:

*User ID and Password* – with iPage, there is no need to memorize
multiple login information and passwords (which nowadays become
really hard to manage). Pursuant to iPage’s single-access policy,
the login information and passwords for all iPage services are the
same. No need to register new usernames and passwords. This makes it
much easier to manage your iPage hosting account.

They make it sound like a feature.  if I shared the FTP, I would have to
give you the keys to the entire iPage account.

Ftp or just a zip is fine. The media can be mixed with the pages or not.
However it's setup now should be fine. This is what I need from the docs of
the first converter stage.

There are only a few things that need to be brought in.  From DocuWiki,
there is only data/pages which holds the Wiki .txt files.  The only
issue there are the files nuttx.txt which is the landing page and
navigation.txt which is the sidebar. navigation.txt WILL cause some
problems.  It uses a sidebar plug-in that no longer exists and can't be
updated.  Basically, there will need to be a new sidebar design based on
navigation .txt.

There are also several directories unrelated to DocuWiki that need to
come along because they include documents and images referenced in
DocuWiki:  Images/, Documenation/, Videos/, nxwidgets_v1_19/,

That is really all you need to know.  Will you need FTP access to get
these non-DocuWiki directories?

I’ve created a test space for you, if you need another just ask.

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NUTTXTEST

I’ll need your account name to give you permissions

Thanks,

Justin,
I would be happy to push this forward. If there is a test space I can give
it a go this evening.

I am the only person that knows that Wiki well.  I don't believe that
there any anyone else that can help.

And I would be glad to help.
