[Eclipse plugin] Bug?
Hi Julien,
I've just tried the Cactus plugin (using Jetty) on a sample application
which does not have a web.xml. It worked but I got the following error:
18:55:03.759 EVENT Starting Jetty/4.2.9
18:55:04.079 EVENT Checking Resource aliases
18:55:04.350 EVENT Started
WebApplicationContext[/test,C:\DOCUME~1\VINCEN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\\jetty.we
bapp]
18:55:04.390 EVENT jsp: init
18:55:04.430 EVENT Internal Error: File /WEB-INF/web.xml not found
[...]
I think we have a limitation in the webxmlmerge in that if the src is
not provided or pointing to a non-existing file, it throws an exception.
However, my worry is that this does not surface when using the Eclipse
plugin...
Thanks
-Vincent

We need to support the use case where the tested application does not
have a web.xml file. That said, you're right and the best implementation
is by checking if the source web.xml file exists and not perform a merge
if it does not.

Not sure what the limitation is about. Do you want the srcfile attribute
to be optional? What should the behaviour be in that case? Otherwise, if
it is required but not specified, isn't it correct to throw a
BuildException?

Arhhh! I understand now....
That said, this message does not appear when I use the Cactus/Jetty
integration. Maybe you are defining a webapp in jetty even when the
project has no webapp?

The webmerge feature is currently no used with Jetty, since all the
Cactus web definitions are done in the JettyInitializer class, and not
from the web.xml provided with Ant Integration. Do you think this
message should not appear if the user did not provide any web.xml in his
webapp ? This is the default behaviour of Jetty.
