sought.rules.yerp.org site down?
I do a "sought" rules update once per day using sa-update, but today I
am seeing:
http: request failed: 500 read timeout: 500 read timeout
channel: could not find working mirror, channel failed
I cannot access the site via web browser either. Just curious if anyone
else seeing this, as well?

A manual run ended up with the same results here:
http: request failed: 500 Can't connect to yerp.org:80 (connect: Connection refused):
500 Can't connect to yerp.org:80 (connect: Connection refused)
channel: could not find working mirror, channel failed

Debugging update channels (was: sought.rules.yerp.org site down?)

Yeah, there was another downtime, obviously fixed since.
However, just to clarify on the debugging technique -- as I mentioned
the other day in this thread, you're dig'ing up the wrong name.
sought.rules.yerp.org is *NOT* supposed to have either an A nor a TXT
record. Only with the reversed SA version prepended it does have any
record at all -- a TXT record encoding the latest channel version.
$ host -t TXT 5.2.3.sought.rules.yerp.org
5.2.3.sought.rules.yerp.org descriptive text "320769313"
The actual http mirror is not necessarily in the same domain, and
usually *not* the channel name (your dig above). The mirrors are cached
in the MIRRORED.BY file, and can be checked fresh with a DNS lookup:
$ host -t TXT mirrors.sought.rules.yerp.org
Bottom line: Please stop digging the channel. :)

Maybe it's just me, but sought.rules.yerp.org is gone:
http: request failed: 500 Can't connect to yerp.org:80 (connect: No
route to host): 500 Can't connect to yerp.org:80 (connect: No route to host)
channel: could not find working mirror, channel failed
dig sought.rules.yerp.org
finds no "A" record. Although yerp.org has an "A" record, the site
cannot be access via browser, at least not from here...

sa-update always uses the SA version for queries, not the plain mirror,
and the update version number is encoded in the TXT record. The plain
one doesn't work.
$ host -t TXT sought.rules.yerp.org
sought.rules.yerp.org has no TXT record
With your reversed SA version number, it does.
$ host -t TXT 5.2.3.sought.rules.yerp.org
5.2.3.sought.rules.yerp.org descriptive text "320767873"
BTW, the problems experienced and discussed earlier seem to be limited
to the http mirror server only. DNS wasn't the problem.

BTW, that sa-update run took quite a while. Guess it had to try multiple
times and eventually succeeded.

Yup, the issues seem to have been fixed -- can reliably access the web
server again, too.

I would, but it's working fine from here now too. Seems whatever the
problem was, it's now fixed.

Maybe they are working on the problem, as i just tried again and am now

Updated twice already today, scheduled, no problems. Just triggered an
update manually, worked too -- that is, it actually updated the rules.

How often did you try the update?
Hmm, weird. The rules *did* update. Yet I actually can't access the
server in MIRRORED.BY either.
