The James project recently announced the release of mime4j 0.7. It now supports pull parsing and has a mode to enforce strict MIME parsing (which is appropriate for MTOM and SwA). It is therefore a good candidate to replace our custom MIME parsing code. This would make it easier for us to solve issues such as AXIOM-61 and AXIOM-366. Not having to maintain our own MIME parser would also free resources to concentrate on higher level features such as AXIOM-377.
