Do you notice the same issue(s) using Batik 1.8?

Although I'm unaware of any sort of workaround for this issue, 1.7 is not still being actively developed.

Batik 1.6.1 and 1.7.1 are unchanged, except for a security fix, so those won't 'help'.

Could you report back with a note about whether or not the issue remains in 1.8? If it works, please close this issue, otherwise please update it to indicate version 1.8.
