+1, Brian, just as an FYI, you diffed again giraph-formats-contrib rather than trunk =). Also, renaming the file to README to match the README in the base directory.

Added README.txt in the base contrib directory to prompt for local m2 re-installation of the parent giraph.jar should any changes occur, at least until we host maven artifacts.

I did a fresh svn co on the project and it builds cleanly. Does your local checkout have changes to GiraphJob that haven't been committed?
giraph-format-contrib is temporarily fragile while it depends on giraph.jar in the parent directory, and not a fixed maven hosted artifact.
