Thanks for providing the patch. I applied it in Rev. 782947.

Yes, I agree, that for pure resource types we should favor the slashy style. But for the script resolution it does not matter, since before using the resource type as a path, the colon is replaced by a slash anyway. This is done to support using primary node types as resource types as-is.
