    Resolution: Won't Do

There isn't any (except changing the content stream directly) and there won't be, because it is so extremely complex. PDF is not like HTML, sadly. See also this text:

The nasty truth is that PDF isn't made for editing. There may be commercial products, e.g. by PDF-Tools or Callas or others.
