I have n .ods (Calc) file that opens in Writer and show a content of hashmarks.
I need this to either open in Calc or at least show me the actual input and
not the machine symbol so I can reproduce the spreadsheets. Any help with this
issue is greatly appreciated.

It is not likely to be an AOO problem if you are losing n ODS files.
Maybe the cause was a virus attack?
