Does Synapse REALLY require Java 1.5 ?

I'm looking for an SOA system that will run on AIX servers running Java 1.4.2

The Synapse Quick Start Guide says it needs Java 1.5 or higher.

But Paul Freeman's blog

http://pzf.fremantle.org/2007/06/apache-synapse-10-released.html#c4055706937461352431

says it supports Java 1.4.2

Will Synapse run on Java 1.4.2 ?

Mal.

To make it clear, we moved to 1.5 when we built our own HTTP and the
SSL support required 1.5. However, I believe you could run this on
1.4.2 without NIO HTTPS.

I also think Andreas solution is a good plan and we could easily
provide a tested 1.4 build if thats amenable.

Mal,

I started a discussion about this issue some time ago:

Would you be interested in the solution proposed in this thread?
