Re: dbpsml v3

Dear All,

Because PSML is a foundation of Jetspeed,

Would you to create a repository for PSML draft specification?

So we will know what kind of feature that will be added in next version, or
etc?

Like W3C, working on XSD, DTD etc...

Frans

Martin,

Can you try to incorporate the included file into news.xml?
I can't seem to get it to build, its complaining about an incompatible
signature.
Should I be posting the announcement anywhere else? (This is only an alpha
release)

David,

Great job on the release :)

I assume you are sill working on the following?
1) General release announcement (announcement@jakarta.apache.org)
2) Update version and link on http://jakarta.apache.org/site/binindex.html

I have added the version 1.3a2 and 1.3a3-dev/CVS to bugzilla. Later
today I will update the version to 1.3a3-dev in the CVS.

Thanks again for you work on the release.

Release 1.3a2 candidate

Posted by David Sean Taylor <da...@bluesunrise.com>.
There is a release candidate for Jetspeed version 1.3a2 at:
http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-jetspeed/release/v1.3a2/
Please give it a try and let us know what you find, anything from show
stoppers to any simple typos.

If everyone agrees, we can make this official and I will tag the cvs Monday
night PST.

Looking at the RELEASE-TODO, there are a few items I can use help on:

- update jakarta.apache.org with newest version and an 'announcement'
How do I go about making an announcement on Apache?

- post to javaworld.com
- post to freshmeat.com

Well - the email is coded to assume that you are approving things -
but its just a template. I was kind of assuming that it was more of
an example and that it would changed in any real use anyway.

We could add a note at the bottom to say change this to reflect your
use? Or we could make it check which flags are on and amend the
wording...

What do people think?

Im having troubles going from a 3-column to a 2-column layout.
Does anyone know if this is a new bug, or if its already been there.
Only way I can get it to work is to delete everything, and then start with a
2-column layout.

Chris,

Also noticed that the confirmation email has changed.
It no longer generates a secret key, now it simply uses the word
'CONFIRMED'.
There is also a bug in the footer where it prints:
"$l10n.SENDCONFIRMATIONEMAIL_FOOT"

One other bug: I received a "Pending Approval" email, even though I did not
have this option selected.
I did select to have the administrator notified, but I set
"newuser.approval.enable=false"
It send me an email stating:

"You must accept or reject this account for their request to proceed."

Which was not the case, my approval as administrator wasnt necessary.

The database psml seems to be working finally.
My demo site is now running with a dbpsml backend.
The problem I see with using dbpsml is that I cannot customize my anonymous
page, nor any other of my group pages.
I may have a look into getting this to work.... so does anyone mind pushing
back the release until the weekend?
Sorry, but I believe it needs just a little more cleanup work, and I don't
see the point in rushing it out :-)

Make sure to check out Andreas' contributions. He did a great job with the
customizer: wml support, the check boxes on the portlet selector is much
better, and its generally more robust.

Thanks Santiago. Glad to hear you didn't lose any work on your laptop.
Lets please think about testing all critical areas of the system after
committing this close to the release. I know we don't have any unit or
system tests, but maybe a short list of features to test such as
login/logout, customization...

I'm committing small patches (security check related, javadoc warnings,
extra null checks)

All of those are inmediate response to any NullPointerException I see.
In addition to lookig for the root cause, I try to check it and log and
or work around it. This will save trouble in the future.

These patches were in my laptop disk when it had to go to service, and
now I'm retaking them, polishing and committing. :-(

I hope none of these patches breaks anything.

The problem is that when I enter my password I get the message authorization
failed - access restricted. I already changed my password and it's working
fine when I use SSH.

I guess you've read this:

Did you checkout ok - is it just the commit is a problem?

Personally I use the command line option - so I cannot comment from
personal experience?

Chris

CVS connect...

Posted by Andreas Kempf <An...@gmx.net>.
Hi,

I wanna upload my files but I can't connect the cvs server.
I am using winCVS. Authentication is 'passwd file on server' - did I choose
the right method?

Thanks,

Andreas

Wonderful... My guess would be that the transactions aren't getting
committed...

Yes, the DBPSML is something that we agreed to put in.
And Torque is necessary to generate the SQL.

Is this needed for the release? I presume if it is, then it is for
the dbpsml and that needs to be working too then...

Fine - I have nothing large pending... let me know if there is
anything I can do.

I just tried the default installation from CVS, with dbpsml turned
on, logged in as turbine, customized the page, removed all portlets
from front page except for the stock portlet - saved the changes -
looked ok at this point - just one portlet. Logged out and in again
and the content reverted to the original turbine portal layout...

I created a new user which got the turbine layout - good. But tried
the above and it still failed to have saved the customisation after
logging out and in again.

HTH,
Chris

release 1.3a2

Posted by David Sean Taylor <da...@bluesunrise.com>.
Ive been testing the release this evening, was about ready to move forward,
when I discovered that Torque is no longer working from inside Jetspeed. So
Im going to push the release back until we can resolve it.

If anyway has anything else to commit, please respond to this email and let
me know your intentions.
As soon as I work out the Torque problem, I'd like to start making the
release, hopefully by early this week.

Also, if you have anything you'd like to add to the release notes or
documentation, please update the files directly in the cvs.

I believe the db-psml is now working for inserts/updates/deletes.
If anyone gets a chance to test it out I'd appreciate it.
