[DISCUSS] Pekko Connectors 1.1.1 release?
Hi everyone,
I think after a couple of issues have been resolved (noted later) it
should be a good time to release pekko-connectors 1.1.1 as there have
been quite a lot of bug fixes, namely in the google-cloud-storage
connector but also fixes in udp and other subsystems that have been
provided by the community (many thanks!).
There are some outstanding questions that should be
resolved/reviewed/merged before we commence with the release
* https://github.com/apache/pekko-connectors/issues/1003 (need to
confirm that the PR submitted by @sdeigm solves the issue)
* https://github.com/apache/pekko-connectors/pull/1060 (needs to be
reviewed and merged)
* Not critical but
https://github.com/apache/pekko-connectors/issues/810 should be looked
into (on first glance this to me appears like a non issue)
What does everyone think?
Also I would love to act as a release manager but I cannot find my
hardware yubikey which I need to sign for releases, so if I don't find
it by then it would be good if someone else could stand up to being a
release manager!
Regards,
Matthew

Ordinarily I wouldn't make a big deal out of this, but some of the
bugs in the 1.1.x I would consider quite critical. The most pressing
example is the fact that in 1.1.x, in the google cloud storage
connector basic operations like setting metadata when uploading don't
even work at all (see
https://github.com/apache/pekko-connectors/pull/1045)

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying (and sorry about perhaps adding confusion).
I think I'd prefer releasing 1.2.0 (and later releasing those
still-to-come features in a 1.3.0) over releasing 1.1.1, but I'm not
opposed to releasing 1.1.1 :).

I think I'd prefer to focus on releasing 1.2.0 from main.
I am proposing that we make a release from the 1.1.1 branch. Main is
currently sitting at 1.2.0 because a lot of new features were merged
into it (which requires a minor version bump) but there are still more
features to be merged for 1.2.0 i.e.
https://github.com/apache/pekko-connectors/pull/1021 but there is more
to come.
On the other hand, all of the bug fixes that have accumulated for the
1.1.x series haven't been released yet, hence the release for 1.1.1.
There are people out there currently using 1.1.1 snapshots with bug
fixes for a long amount of time because 1.1.1 hasn't been released
yet.

Yup probably, but I still want to try finding the key!

Doing a release sounds good.
I see there's an 1.2.0-M0 tag at
https://github.com/apache/pekko-connectors/tags - IIRC we use that to
signal the next release should be 1.2.0 rather than 1.1.1, right? Are
you proposing to create a release from the 1.1.x branch or from main?
I think I'd prefer to focus on releasing 1.2.0 from main.
As for your lost Yubikey: I think it should be fine to add an
additional key to the KEYS?
Kind regards,
Arnout

1060 is only merged to main branch - the 1.2 focused branch.
Is the idea to backport it to the 1.1.x branch?
