I saw that you have also created another issue (FELIX-4889) in order to reuse the new diagnostic api from the shell commands, so I will wait for your other patch before committing.

by the way, In the org.apache.felix.dm.itest.api.DiagnosticsTest.java, I saw your TODO:

{code}
        // TODO: check why org.apache.felix.dm.itest.bundle is needed
{code}.

This component is actually needed and used by the FELIX2955_ShellCommandTest integration test.
