Cayenne 2.0.2
Are we waiting on anything for a 2.0.2 release? If not, I'd like to
propose a vote for a new release. There have been some important
bugfixes since 2.0.1 and it'd be nice to get it out as a maintenance
release.

I successfully ran the 2.0.2 test suite in hsqldb, derby, and pgsql.
I actually had two different problems that manifested themselves in
similar ways:
1) Derby's embedded JDBC driver is in derby.jar, not derbyclient.jar.
Not having used Derby before, I used [1] as reference and was lead
astray.
2) I got spoiled by auto-adapters and when I set up my
connection.properties, I forgot to specify a Cayenne adapter.
Fixing those enabled me to run the tests fine. Apologies to Andrus who
waited around patiently for this. I will post the chat log shortly as
well.

An update. I just signed off the release session with Kevin (Tore
joined a few minutes ago). Kevin is still testing 2.0.2 build and
will post the transcript of the chat. We ran into a few issues that
we will have to address tomorrow:
1. To do the release signing a release admin must log his key to the
KEYS file (so I will be signing the release this time around).
2. Need a link to the RAT tool.
I'll do my best to publish the release artifacts tomorrow.

Sorry, cannot join. Our firewall/proxy at work blocks stuff like that
(only port 80 and 443 allowed, and all IM/etc blocked). Notes would

I am on IRC now (#cayenne on freenode). I can see Kevin is there as
well. If anybody wants to join, please jump on it. We can stick to
our original time at 17 GMT which is 1.5 hours from now. Essentially
the plan is to prepare and test 1.2.2 and 2.0.2 release snapshots so
that we can do a vote. Procedure roughly follows this algorithm:

I'd be willing to join in. I have AIM and Skype accounts. However, I'm
going away on vacation 1/12 - 1/21, so I don't think I'd be most
appropriate to be the RM this go around. But, at least if I participate
in some form, I'll be prepared for the next go-around.
Another option is to use #cayenne on freenode, which consists mostly of
just me, so there shouldn't be a noise problem.

Let's move ahead with it.
There was a suggestion to better document a release procedure so that
any of the Cayenne committers could do it. So I'd like to offer this
- how about we do the release on IM with one other volunteer
committer and then document it together (I've seen Geronimo doing
something like that). Aside from spreading the knowledge, one area
where I can use some help is testing with Oracle, Sybase, and DB2, as
my old test server went bust, and I don't have access to any of those
at the moment.
Any volunteers to participate in the release assembly and or test on
those DB's?
I should be available most of the time on Wednesday, January 10th.

P.S. I know the word "IM" generates lots of bad reaction. Here IMO
using IM is totally appropriate since we won't be changing (or
planning to change) the code, but rather executing a standard release
sequence, using IM only to coordinate testing. If anyone thinks this
is bad - tell me why.

Yes, there is a difference between consensus to make a release (begin
the release process) and approval of a release (after the release
artifacts are available for testing etc.).
I'd suggest using the [VOTE] subject only for the approval. Seems
like lazy consensus is sufficient to begin the process. If there is a
need to get lots of input to begin, you might tag the discussion
thread with [DISCUSS], but that's just to call attention to the mail...

I propose we add some sort of checklist of tasks to complete during the

could track by release. Otherwise, we could open up a bunch of JIRA
tasks, but that seems less than ideal to me.
Anyway, with a good checklist, any one of the committers ought to be
able to do whatever is necessary to put out a new release. This might
help take some of the burden of project management off you. Having said
that, I'm not fully up to speed on all the ASF procedures, so it may be
you that has to cut releases anyway.
