i tried several maven versions to compile our project, but it seems broken as from maven 3.3.1. I also tested 3.3.3 and it didn't work either. 
All versions 3.2.x compile fine. So, this seems regression and prohibits us from upgrading our maven version. Maven compile log + pom excerpt attached for clarification.
