[jira] Updated: (QPID-92) Implement Mina API changes

Marnie McCormack updated QPID-92:
---------------------------------

    Fix Version/s: (was: M2)
                   M3

Moving unresolved JIRAs from M2 to M3, in preparation for M2 release.

For this JIRA would suggest that a discussion be held on the dev list as it's been a known issue for a while, and does cause client throttling issues.

    Resolution: Later

Need to decide what we are doing about our IO Layer.
Options:
1) Upgrade to latest Mina working with Mina to resolve bug regression
2) Abstract IO Layer so we can substitute alternatives potentially doing 1) at afterwards.

As long as they will be releasing at some point, going ahead at this
stage with snapshots is not
necessarily a bad thing. I would however say that we should try to not
be on a snapshot for a 1.0
or production release. As with milestone releases it is better to be
using the code we need and to
be able to provide feedback and bug fixes back to earlier

I would thus say, go to a version with the stuff we need, and let's get
it tested now, and from my side
I have no issue if M2 also releases with a snapshot ( we have the
process understood for it ). I would
rather have snapshots now than when we do a 1.0 release for example.

Carl.

Re: [jira] Commented: (QPID-92) Implement Mina API changes

Posted by Daniel Kulp <da...@iona.com>.
Steve,

I still wouldn't move to using the SNAPSHOT with the new API's unless the
Mina team can also commit to producing at least a "beta" release in the
next couple weeks. Otherwise, we could run into the same snapshot issue
with the M2 release. If they can get the 1.0.X release that fixes the
bugs, I would stick with that for M2 and re-examine the API issues when
there is some commitment from them to be able to produce a non-snapshot
version. (a beta would be OK as long as it's uploaded to the maven
repositories)

Dan

I have asked them to do a release which they have voted on but not
actually cut yet.. no response

Robert asked them again today if they have any objections with us
using the 1.1.0-Snapshot we were using before which is revision
463149. We should get a response by Monday. .. If not I'm not sure
what that means... It seems very odd that we can't just release the
code.. if it was a c++ application the binary distro could be a single
bin file, with no chance of someone reusing the code. The source code
would be available but it state where the source came from and what
reason.. I would have thought that was enough though IANAL and I'm new
to the whole open source release process. Much easier to write the
software than to let people actually use it. :D

Hi Martin, regarding this, has there been any progress in trying to
convince the Mina folks to at least put a new snapshot release up on
the snapshot maven repository?

Martin Ritchie commented on QPID-92:
------------------------------------

Changes commited but the rolled back as cannot use maven to use a local jar. .. Progress pending on decision about what mina release to use.
