Seems the map originally was used to update the documents in the cache as well, but this was abandoned (http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/jackrabbit/oak/trunk/oak-core/src/main/java/org/apache/jackrabbit/oak/plugins/document/rdb/RDBDocumentStore.java?r1=1630901&r2=1631824&pathrev=1631824&diff_format=h)
