[jira] Created: (GERONIMO-614) Deployment user error should not vomit stacktraces

Deployment user error should not vomit stacktraces
--------------------------------------------------

         Key: GERONIMO-614
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMO-614
     Project: Geronimo
        Type: Improvement
  Components: deployment
    Reporter: Jeremy Boynes

The command line deployer dumps a full stacktrace for some common user error conditions (e.g. trying to deploy a RAR without a plan) which is confusing for the user. It should just print an appropriate error message.

Sure Mark.

Actually, you can already specify the general option "--verbose" to
enable the full stack traces.

Thanks,
Gianny

Gianny,

Could we have a command line option "-verbose" that would still enable
the full stack traces? The stack trace can be an aid for new developers
when trying to fix a bug.

Thanks
Mark

I just gave it a try with the new deployer. This is better as only this message is displayed:

Deployment failed
Server reports: org.apache.geronimo.common.DeploymentException: A connector module must be deployed using a plan
A connector module must be deployed using a plan
