DO NOT REPLY [Bug 118910] New: PageDown after Shift removes selection

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118910

             Bug #: 118910
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: PageDown after Shift removes selection
    Classification: Application
           Product: Word processor
           Version: version58
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: editing
        AssignedTo: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
        ReportedBy: apache.org-201110@dotancohen.com

When making a text selection by holding Shift while moving the arrow keys, the
selection will be lost if one presses the PageDown key. The user expects that
he could move the cursor with the arrow keys and with the PageUp / PageDown
keys to make selections.

Yes, I am beginning to think that too. I notice that the problem _usually_
occurs when the selection passes a comment and/or a recorded change, only in
web layout. I will keep triaging to see if I can devise determinate
reproduction instructions.

No, it is not.

> Can you check this?

I have tried with other .docs in web layout, but could not reproduce. However,
that was before I made the connection with the comments / recorded changes. I
will keep trying.

Thank you. Interestingly, I can only reproduce this on .doc documents in Web
Layout mode sent to me by a single user. All his files suffer from this issue.
Other .doc and .odt work fine.

Thanks for the hint. Then I think it's not generally a problem with the
application/import filter but more with this single document.

What happens when you open and save this .doc file as normal .odt file? Is the
selection still deleted?

Another idea: Maybe it's always happening with .doc files in web layout mode?
Can you check this?

If it's really with this one document only, then the issue is totally trivial
and IMHO not worth to spend more time for analysis. I hope you think the same
way.

So, I will close the issue now.

I've no problem to select text when using [Shift] + [PageUP] or [PageDown].

Please note that the selection is deleted when you release the [Shift] key and
press only [PageUp] or [PageDown].

Actually, the issue is with multiple documents from the same recipient.
However, I agree that it is obscure enough to ignore for now. If I ever see the
same issue with documents from other senders, I will reopen if I can devise
determinate reproduction instructions.
