Why? For convenience? All truncate does is "disable <table name>", "delete <table name>", and "create <table name>"; possibly only saving the specification of the schema (HTableDescriptor) required to recreate the table.

I don't know well about new shell and roadmap. but, there is no reason
to follow HQL. :)
