[jira] [Created] (INFRA-3672) import files into Hive Confluence

import files into Hive Confluence
---------------------------------

                 Key: INFRA-3672
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-3672
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Task
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: Confluence
            Reporter: John Sichi

This is a companion to INFRA-3641. We've converted the MoinMoin dump into Confluence using a test Confluence server, and then exported the space from there. I don't think I have the necessary Confluence access for doing the import into the real Apache Confluence server, so I need some help with that.

The export is in /home/jvs/Hive-204911-2.xml.zip

It's OK if the import deletes any existing pages (there's currently only one, the Bylaws, and I've made my own backup of that).

After the import is done, we'll need to apply changes from MoinMoin which took place since the dump, so if this request can be carried out soon, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

John Sichi commented on INFRA-3672:
-----------------------------------

@Brock:  I noticed two things:

1) Links to nested pages are broken. For example, [[Hive/Development/ContributorsMeetings]]. Is there any way to reference these post-import? If so, we can fix the links manually. If not, we'll need to make a list of these and figure out how to deal with them.

2) The main page seems to correspond to the MoinMoin version from 2009-09-20 23:54:52 (after which many changes have taken place). That MoinMoin page version has comment "converted to 1.6 markup", so I suspect that it's the first version present in the source wiki. For each page, we want the latest page version, not the first version. This only looks to be a problem for the main page, so if that's the case, we can just deal with it manually; I just want to verify that the other pages all got the latest version as of the time we obtained the source dump.

@Gavin: we'll close out this issue if we can resolve these manually; otherwise one more import might be required.

Sorry for the late reply. I have shaky internet access right now.

Yes I think that is as good as it gets. I do not have edit access or I would start fixing stuff.

@Brock: I see; so it looks like the dump itself was not getting all the latest versions as of the time the dump was taken. I'm noticing the same thing for some other pages too (e.g. HowToContribute), so I think we're going to need to do another full cycle.

@Gavin: looks like we need another dump. INFRA-3641 has the record of how the last one was done. Maybe there is some other way to do a MoinMoin export which will capture all page versions?

Oops, a couple more things:

1) it looks like a Confluence account is now required in order to view pages; can we set it so that anonymous web viewers can see them?

2) I no longer seem to have admin rights on the space; can I get those back?

1. Yes you are right. They are there, if you search for ContributorsMeetings you can find it. I noticed this with the Language sub pages and figured I would just fix them up.

2. You are correct. I noticed one such change is this one:

http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/Hive?action=diff&rev1=72&rev2=71

But looking in my dump, I do not have that anywhere:

{(monospaced)}
$ pwd
/Users/noland/tmp/hive-wiki-full
$ grep -R Jenkins .
$
{(monospaced)}

I took the version specified in the "current" file and that revision does not have Jenkins, it has Hudson:

{(monospaced)}
$ cat Hive/current
00000061
$ cat Hive/revisions/00000061
= What is Hive =
[[http://hadoop.apache.org/hive/|Hive]] is a data warehouse infrastructure built on top of [[.|Hadoop]]. It provides tools to enable easy data ETL, a mechanism to put structures on the data, and the capability to querying and analysis of large data sets stored in Hadoop files. Hive defines a simple SQL-like query language, called QL, that enables users familiar with SQL to query the data. At the same time, this language also allows programmers who are familiar with the MapReduce fromwork to be able to plug in their custom mappers and reducers to perform more sophisticated analysis that may not be supported by the built-in capabilities of the language.

Hive does not mandate read or written data be in the "Hive format"---there is no such thing. Hive works equally well on Thrift, control delimited, or your specialized data formats. Please see [[/DeveloperGuide#File_Formats|File Format]] and [[http://www.slideshare.net/ragho/hive-user-meeting-august-2009-facebook|SerDe]] in [[/DeveloperGuide|Developer Guide]] for details.

= What Hive is NOT =
Hadoop is a batch processing system and Hadoop jobs tend to have high latency and incur substantial overheads in job submission and scheduling. As a result - latency for Hive queries is generally very high (minutes) even when data sets involved are very small (say a few hundred megabytes). As a result it cannot be compared with systems such as Oracle where analyses are conducted on a significantly smaller amount of data but the analyses proceed much more iteratively with the response times between iterations being less than a few minutes. Hive aims to provide acceptable (but not optimal) latency for interactive data browsing, queries over small data sets or test queries. Hive also does not provide sort of data or query cache to make repeated queries over the same data set faster.

Hive is not designed for online transaction processing and does not offer real-time queries and row level updates. It is best used for batch jobs over large sets of immutable data (like web logs). What Hive values most are scalability (scale out with more machines added dynamically to the Hadoop cluster), extensibility (with MapReduce framework and UDF/UDAF/UDTF), fault-tolerance, and loose-coupling with its input formats.

Brock, does Atlassian provide different versions for the trial? If not, I guess we just have to wait.

> Thanks!

Ok I see, from the exportDescripter.properties I see build number 2154 which equates to you using Confluence 3.5.3 whereas we are behind, still on 3.4.9.

You'll have to either a) download 3.4.9 and use that to provide an export, or wait until we upgrade to 3.5.6 which is due out in the next week or two.
