http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=39440

Summary: No real documentation of %u log format string
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.3-HEAD
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Documentation
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: apache@harkless.org

There does not appear to be any documentation of how to interpret what appears
in the log when using the %u log format string. Besides the possibilities of
"-" and "<username>", there are "auth:<username>" and "no-auth:<username>" and
possibly others which deserve explanation. (I couldn't find any further
information on %u via Googling or in my copy of "Apache: The Definitive Guide",
either.)

Argh. Sorry. My mistake. I didn't realize our old developers had put in some
custom stuff for the logging to get the "auth:" and "no-auth:". No wonder I
couldn't find documentation on it. Sorry again for wasting your time.

         Resolution| |INVALID

------- Additional Comments From noodl@apache.org 2007-09-09 18:50 -------
I don't see anywhere in the httpd source that no-auth is prepended to r->user, including in
mod_log_config.c or any of the core authentication modules.

Please reopen this if it's still valid, and point out where this string is added.

Cheers.
