Colon character not searchable by QueryParser

org.apache.lucene.queryParser.QueryParser does not allow the colon character to
be included in search text.  When I don't filter colon characters from user
input in Eyebrowse's SearchList servlet, I get the following exception when
seraching for the text "10:" (minus the quotes):

org.apache.lucene.queryParser.ParseException: Encountered "<EOF>" at line 1,
column 3.
Was expecting one of:
    "(" ...
    <QUOTED> ...
    <NUMBER> ...
    <TERM> ...
    <WILDTERM> ...
    <RANGEIN> ...
    <RANGEEX> ...
