we can build branch 4.2 at Centos 7 and Debian 9 which is more like Centos 8

Yes, a few years passed in the meantime and indeed now CentOS 7 would be
a better choice than CentOS 6, with maintenance guaranteed until June 2024.

Of course it doesn't have to be CentOS, but for sure CentOS 6 doesn't
make sense any longer; I think we can just close the issue.

As noted elsewhere, I use CentOS7 for our 4.2.X/trunk Linux 64 bit builds.
