infrastructure issues

does women@ need/want a:

- website
- blog
- wiki/ forum software
- SVN
- issue tracking

we could probably get those bits started now. and start get someing
paperwork going for the non-members .. i'm assuming people would need
a CLA in order to get write access to various bits.

don't take this as being pushy.. just that if you think you need it
would could bug the infrastructure people now and it they will be
ready for when we need to do them.

Why does this group need a special website, svn, ...?

Is this effort going to duplicate the documentation
at www.apache.org/ and www.apache.org/dev/ sites?

I would think that a page or two at /dev/ would be more
than sufficient. The rest of the topics, about making ASF
a nice place to contribute, would be documented along
with the normal participation notes at the /dev/ site.

ah, I see what you're getting at.

On the apache development lists, non-committers can post changes to the
dev mail list or upload to a Jira issue. If that change should be
committed, then a committer takes it and commits it.

I recommend the same model here. Contributors post their contributions
and only committers do the commit.

yep.. either women.apache.org or www.apache.org/women

just a place to point people to and for people to find when they do a
search for
open source women (or whatever)

we don't.. but we should.. but we might be able to get a 'semi' hosted
blog going.
we could always setup a domain for $8/year called apachebloggers or
something like that.
we should be able to find a spot on a machine somewhere to host it if
we asked enough people.

but to commit to SVN, or update the website they might.

the reason we would need a 'special' SVN area, as non-comitters would
have to access it.

We don't need infra to do a web site for women@, but we need karma to do
it ourselves (i.e., karma to /www/women on people.apache.org). I would
like to have karma.

I didn't realize apache hosted blogs! (Learn something new every day!)

Berin emailed a request to infra on 8/10 for a wiki. women@ isn't
archived yet, so I included a copy of that request down below.

This would be good to have; at the very least for the web site source.

This would be good to have. For example, it would allow those who don't
have commit access to upload new content to be integrated into the web
site by somebody who does have commit access.

I assume nobody would need a CLA to subscribe to the list.

The women@ mail list is the key right now, but this is all excellent
forward thinking -- thanks!
