Request for review of qfs patches

Hi guys,

I’ve got two patches that I’d like to get reviewed and committed into the BigTop repository. These patches contain code to include qfs (Quantcast FileSystem) into the BigTop ecosystem. I’ve written the code to package qfs for both rpm and debian based systems. I’ve also written the puppet recipes to make sure that components are able to talk to each other correctly.

If you have some time, could you please review these patches and offer any feedback you have so that we can get these merged in?

Thank you so much!

Faraaz

Hi Faraaz,

Thanks for your patience. I am looking at patches if I can spend a little time.

While your patches are of a very good quality, two packages blew up when I installed them.
Please fix these issues and I will apply the packaging to bigtop. Further testing is the job of the smoke tests.

Thanks for taking a look at the packaging code Olaf!

Can I ask you to take a look at the puppet recipes code and smoke test code as well? Hopefully they should be much easier to review.

Thanks!

Hi

Ah indeed if I download https://github.com/apache/bigtop/pull/83.patch again it is updated.

And I see that at least two of my concerns are adressed. Let me review it tomorrow, it's too late now for me.

Hi Olaf,

I see your confusion. The correct pull requests are:

https://github.com/apache/bigtop/pull/83

https://github.com/apache/bigtop/pull/84

https://github.com/apache/bigtop/pull/86

The reason there are two pull requests (and why you might be seeing old code) is that one was closed out and replaced while renaming branches. Sorry for the confusion! Let me know if I can help in any other way :).

Hi Olaf,

My workflow is to amend my previous commit and force push to my branch. The commit date doesn’t get updated but it is the latest code. I just confirmed that. Github also takes care of updating the pull request with the latest git hash as well when the code updates on my branch.

Hope that helps :). Let me know if you have any further questions :).

Thanks again for taking a look!

Sorry Faraaz,

I do not see any updates on github. Can you direct me to refreshed patches?

On BIGTOP-2285 I cannot find any useful new information.
The last pull request #83 is from January 14th
https://github.com/fsareshwala/bigtop/commit/d1d6600cacf247567cfe49245c5bfd1ced41ca60

Thanks for taking a look Roman!

All commits are published together on my bigtop fork’s master branch (https://github.com/fsareshwala/bigtop). There are individual branches for each patch as well so that I could make the pull request for each clean. Let me know if you need anything else :).

Thanks for the contributions! Just to make it easier on reviewers
could you please publish all the required patches in a GH repo?
So I can just pull from there, build and play with your code all at once.

Thanks,
Roman.

I’ve made all the requested changes for the submitted patches. I think the puppet recipes and smoke tests are pretty much ready to go. Let me know if you guys have any comments on that. Can someone take a look at the packaging so we can get that reviewed and merged?

Thanks!

No worries :). I’ve gotten a couple of review comments from Olaf and Cos. They’re keeping me busy enough.

Would love for you to take a look when you can though!

Hi Faraaz,

Thanks for delivering patches this quick.
As you can see most of our people is mainly working on the release, hence
we mind not be able to take care everything in a timely manner during this
period.
Anyhow, either I or other community member will review your patches and get
it merged.
But I myself still have some pending JIRAs in my queue waiting for review
and merge.
So please hang on. :)

Sorry for the second email. Just want to mention that I have one last patch coming up for qfs smoke tests. I haven’t finished that just yet. But I wanted to get things moving for the two patches that are already ready.
