Configur{e,ation} changes

When you come to test the new Configure on your platform, it would be good if
you would update (or let me know so I can update) the DEF_HSREGEX and
DEF_BADMMAP for your platform, even if the default ("no") is good - that way we
will know which platforms have been dealt with and which haven't, and also
become aware of platforms which require finer subdivision (by release number,
for example).

Well, as I've mentioned before, the reason those two settings exist in
that form at all is because they do need finer subdivision, though I
suppose that there are some platforms for which we can get a definite
"no" or "yes".

BTW, I was wrong earlier (I had something else screwed up): shmget
does work on my HP-UX 9.04 box (the one that doesn't work with
mmap). Assuming it works on the other series of HP-UX machines as well
(Rob? anyone else with a 700-series HP workstation?), there may be
cause for changing the HAVE_MMAP to HAVE_SHMGET in the HP-UX section,
and getting rid of that darned BADMMAP thing entirely (I'm not aware
of any other systems to which this applies).

For the record, I don't mind asking the user "Are you running Solaris
2.4 or 2.5?" or "Are you running HP-UX 9 or 10?". Because they
probably know. I *would* mind asking the user "Are you running Solaris
2.5 or 2.5.1?" (or even worse, have they installed various patches?)
or "Are you running HP-UX on a series 700 or series 800
computer?". That's the sort of thing they'd be less likely to
know. (heck, I didn't even know what series my HP box was until this
whole mess came up).

Though, as I've pointed out before, having all these little divisions
can make Configuration large and unweidly. I'd rather use
autoconf, with partial (or no) OS-based selection. But I think I've
said that before.
