Reopening.
I was able to reproduce again with branch-1 (not branch-1.3). I misjudged this. In retrospect it's obvious, the exception thrown out of the doAs is UndeclaredThrowableException. We have to catch and transform the ServiceException inside the doAs block. Will revert the earlier commit and replace with the proper fix.
