Umm ... "deprecate," not "exclude". You _can_ develop AWT/Swing in
Eclipse: in fact, JVE (the Java GUI builder) still only supports A/S!
(though SWT support is forthcoming.) I believe one can also develop
and deploy plugins using A/S. (If memory serves, in 2.x the JUnit
plugin GUI was A/S, though it's now SWT--looks nicer, runs faster :-)

It's even possible to run SWT on top of A/S, for maximum portability
(and minimum performance :-) See
