[jira] [Created] (CODEC-144) BaseNCodec: encodeToString and
encodeAsString methods are identical
Sebb created CODEC-144:
--------------------------
Summary: BaseNCodec: encodeToString and encodeAsString methods are identical
Key: CODEC-144
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CODEC-144
Project: Commons Codec
Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: Sebb
Priority: Minor
The BaseNCodec: encodeToString and encodeAsString methods are identical.
Not quite sure how that happened (possibly as part of the refactoring of the subclasses).
Options are:
* document and ignore (i.e. keep both)
* deprecate one method for removal in 2.0

---------------------------------------
I have checked the logs, the additional encodeAsString has been added as part of a refactoring in revision 1064262.

Gary D. Gregory commented on CODEC-144:

I would say: document in Javadoc that we know about the dup but that the API is up in the air for 2.0 and the introduction of generics. I would not deprecate for now.
